Gift cards#

Placket supports Shopify gift cards: the product page for buying one, a recipient form, and the page the customer opens from the gift card email.

Create a gift card product#

1. In your admin, go to Products > Gift cards. If you have not used gift cards before, select Add gift card product.
2. Add a title, a description and an image. Set the card values (denominations).
3. Save and make the product available on your Online Store.

Recipient form on the product page#

On a gift card product, the Buy buttons block shows a form:

• Recipient email (required)
• Recipient name
• Message
• Send on (a date)

The email goes to the recipient on the date you pick. If the date is empty, it is sent right after the order is paid. The form shows error messages in a list when something is missing or invalid.

To turn the form off, open a gift card product in the theme editor, select the Buy buttons block and turn off Show gift card recipient form.

The product price block does not show the "Shipping calculated at checkout" note on gift cards.

The gift card page#

When a customer opens their gift card email, they see the gift card page. It shows:

• The card with your tagline
• The code
• The balance and, when the card has one, the expiry date
• A QR code
• A Shop now button
• A Print button
• An Add to Apple Wallet button (when Shopify provides a wallet pass)

To edit the page, go to Online Store > Themes > Customize, open the page picker and select Gift card. See Gift card for every setting.

Layout choices:

• Card beside details (default)
• Printed card on a panel

Tips#

• Edit Code note to match your policy. The default says the balance stays on the card. It does not mention an expiry date, so add one if your cards expire.
• The page uses its own simple header (store name) and footer, not your regular header and footer.
• Test with a gift card from Products > Gift cards > Issue gift card (or buy one with a test order) to see the real page.
