Filters and search
Filters on collection and search pages
The theme does not create filters by itself. It shows the filters you set up in the free Shopify Search & Discovery app.
Set up filters
- In your admin, go to Apps and install Search & Discovery (from the Shopify App Store) if you have not.
- Open the app and select Filters.
- Select Add filter. Pick a source: for example Availability, Price, Color, Size, Product type or a product metafield.
- Save the filter. Reorder filters by dragging them.
- Open a collection page on your store to check it.
Tips:
- Filters made from product options (Size, Color) use the option values on your products. Use the same words everywhere, for example always "XS" and not "Extra Small" on some products.
- A filter shows only when at least one product in the collection has a value for it.
- Filters can differ per collection. Use the collection filter settings inside the app.
Choose how filters look
Open the Product grid section (Customize > Collections > Product grid):
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Show filters | Turns the filter UI on or off |
| Filter layout | Sidebar, Drawer, or Bar (ruled row with dropdowns). The sidebar shows on desktop only. Phones always use the drawer. |
| Open filter groups by default | Opens each group when the page loads |
| Keep sidebar in view while scrolling | Pins the sidebar |
| Show as buttons | Comma-separated filter names (default "Size") shown as square buttons |
The filter bar lists price ranges, lists of values and on/off values as Shopify provides them.
Filters, pagination and promo tiles
- Infinite scroll and Load more button work with filters. When a shopper changes a filter or the sort order, the grid starts again from the first products. See Product grid.
- Promo tile blocks are hidden while a filter is active. They only show on the first page of an unfiltered collection.
Filters on the search page
The search results page uses the same filters. Product filters appear for product results.

See the FAQ.
Sorting
Shoppers can sort collection pages. Turn sorting on or off with Show sorting in the Product grid section. Sort options has two choices:
- Essential six: Featured, Newest first, Best selling, Price low to high, Price high to low, Name A to Z.
- All Shopify options: every sort option Shopify offers.
The starting order of a collection is set in your admin: open Products > Collections, select a collection and pick a Sort option. For "Featured", sort the products by hand.
Predictive search
Predictive search shows suggestions as the shopper types. Settings are in Theme settings > Search:
| Setting | Default |
|---|---|
| Enable predictive search | On |
| Show query suggestions | On |
| Products to show | 4 (2 to 10) |
| Show price | On |
| Show articles and pages | On |
| Highlight matching text | On |
The Header section decides how search opens: Search opens as is Full-width drawer under the header or Search page. See Header.
Predictive search results come from Shopify's search. To improve them, use the Search & Discovery app: add synonyms, product boosts and search settings.
The search page
The page at /search. See Search results for all settings, including the no-results suggestions.
Complementary and related products
- Related products are chosen by Shopify. No setup needed.
- Complementary products (items that go with a product) are set in Search & Discovery:
- Open the app and select Recommendations.
- Select Complementary products.
- Pick a product, then add the products that go with it.
- In the theme editor, point the Complete the look or Product recommendations section at complementary products. See Product page.
It can take some time before new relationships appear on your store.
Hiding sold-out products
The theme has no setting to hide sold-out products in a collection. Two ways to do it:
- Add an Availability filter in Search & Discovery so shoppers can filter to "In stock".
- Use an automated collection with the condition Inventory stock greater than 0. Edit it in Products > Collections.
You can also turn off the Sold out badge in Theme settings > Badges.
